Grill Cleaning
Grill Cleaning
A few types of grills exist, and their cleaning is essential in order to function properly. Regardless of the model you own, the best solution would be a grill cleaning kit. These are usually formed out of 3 essential components: grill scraper, grill cleaner and grill brush.
The scraper/brush is very cheap and has brass bristles that don’t rust and don’t leave rust on the grill. At the end of it, there can be found a small extension through which you can clean up tough spots and heavy grease.
The grill cleaner is a spray that when pulverized penetrates trough grease, spots, carbonized leftovers and makes it a lot easier to brush and scrape manually. It’s universal, and you can use it on everything related to grilling from the actual grill to utensils and spots.
We reported a long time ago how to easily retrofit the lid thermometer. Since this is not the only accessory that can be installed to bring your flat Top grill up to date, we will show a few small things in the following article that will make the old grill shine in new splendor.
With the handles, especially with the charcoal grills, dirt is often deposited through coal or the handles simply wear out over time. These handles on the sides and on the lid can be easily changed. Simply loosen the small screw in the middle of the handle then remove the rear and front part of the handle. Take the new handle (screw is included), hold the rear part against the metal then hold the front part, naturally hold it in front and screw tight. Very simple and yes, the handles were white when you bought them, they were never dark gray.
There is also an improvement in lid ventilation that seems almost necessary. The lid ventilation handle was only made of bent metal, which of course gets hot as soon as the grill is in operation. Now you can either burn your fingers as soon as you want to adjust the ventilation or try gloves, which feels like playing Mikado with boxing gloves. There is a small protective cap for this, which you simply put on it and so hardly any heat can get into the "handle". Now the adjustment is very easy without gloves and without burning yourself.
The lid holder gets a little trickier. Here you need a drill, tape measure, open-ended wrench or similar. With our Flat Top grill we went 2 cm down from the top to drill the holes. But you can still go a little further, as we noticed later. Before screwing on both sides of the upper ring, you must first attach the bracket that is attached to the lower part of the grill. As soon as the ring is straight and firm at the top, hold out the lower bracket, you can use the square hole as a template. If this is also screwed on, you are actually finished, if material has remained, something went wrong.
Charcoal Grills
This type must be cleaned regularly and at least once or twice per year clean it with extra attention. To clean it, you must follow these easy steps:
remove the grates
spray the surface with oven cleaner
wash it with dish soap and let it dry
the grates can be cleaned using a wire brush (grill brush). This is recommended after every use of the grill.
Gas Grills
The gas grill should be cleaned often. What’s more to that, it’s easy to do it. All surfaces must be wiped with a piece of cloth. The cooking surface is like a magnet for grease, so use regularly a non-toxic degreaser. A good tip would be to wipe out everything that has accumulated from the last cookout before you start cooking again.
Flat Top Grills
The process of how to clean a flat top grill is very easy; just wash the cooking surface with water and soap and then wipe it with a piece of cloth. However, allow an hour for the grill to cool down and make sure it’s unplugged before you start the cleaning process if it is an electric grill.
